Divorce mediation is about three people: you, your spouse and a third party – the mediator. The mediator does not work for either party and may not give either party advice, but is there to guide you through the process.

  1. Mediation is much less expensive than a trial or series of hearings.
  2. Mediation usually settles all issues in your divorce, such as distribution of property; child custody; retirement, and taxes.
  3. Mediation allows you and your spouse to decide what is best for your family.
  4. Instead of the courts being in charge of your lives, you and yourspouse are in control.
  5. The mediation is confidential with no public record of what happens in your sessions.

Mediation can work for almost all couples and should be a consideration in a divorce. Of course, you may also choose to have attorneys work with you and your mediator.
